The moving and packing company of Columbus is excited to announce the kick off of the Columbus Documentary Week at Gateway Film Center. The week will start off with a special screening of an Ohio-made documentary and an Ohio State tradition, “Hang On Sloopy: The Movie.”
“Hang On Sloopy: The Movie” will be introduced by the OSU former football coach Earle Bruce and will include a live performance by the OSU Men’s Glee Club. Immediately following the documentary will be a question and answer session with the movie producer, Dave Whinham, and the former OSU marching band director, Paul Droste, and current movie director, Christopher Hoch.
The Columbus Documentary Week will feature other films that look into different aspects including politics with movies such as “The Brainwashing of My Dad,” heartwarming tales such as “King Georges,” and social concerns with the movie “Paper Tigers.”
The Gateway’s director of communications, Johnny DiLoretto stated that “The growing number of quality documentaries, along with the growing audience interest, struck for perfect timing.” In its 10th bi-yearly edition, DiLoretto applauded the President of Gateway, Chris Hamel, for his work organizing this event.
DiLoretto continued to say that the growth in interest for documentaries has been sparked by a larger access to filming and editing equipment, plus an increase in people wanting to tell the tales that have affected their lives. He stated that he feels an important quality of documentaries is that they give an opportunity to shine light on a variety of topics that go otherwise unnoticed.
The Gateway’s Columbus Documentary Week will officially run from Thursday to Monday, with a few documentary related events taking place the following week. All My Sons Columbus knows this is something you won’t want to miss!
