Local Columbus moving companies do a lot of driving and moving; that’s what we’re good at. Now it seems that new transportation technology in Columbus could change forever.
The U.S. Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) is looking to invest $40 million dollars into a city that can transform their new transportation technology into something smarter, faster, and more efficient. Right now Columbus is in the final seven cities left to choose from and people are taking notice. The grant, known as the Smart City Grant, is specific to public transportation, so local moving companies like All My Sons Columbus will have to stick to using moving trucks for the meantime.
The D.O.T. wants cities that have made it to the final round to really show them how they can make a difference with the invested money, how new transportation technology in Columbus will be used, and how they can get the most return in terms of populations enjoyment and real change in the public transportation industry.
Columbus has not submitted its final application as of yet, but local officials suggest that the idea is for the city to have autonomous, electric vehicles that accept payments from the riders individually. Columbus mayor Andrew Ginther says that he wants Columbus to become the “Silicon Valley of intelligent transportation systems.” That’s a bold claim, and needless to say, new transportation technology in Columbus is something the locals can get behind.
We are hopeful that Columbus wins the grants and has a chance to create something new that will change the way we see public transportation forever. Maybe one day in the far future, local Columbus moving companies will be electronic cars too!
