Did you know that 63 percent of low-income homeowners in Columbus are paying more than 50 percent of their income on rent alone? And this does not include utilities. This staggering number is a major concern for homeowners. Thankfully, Habitat for Humanity, an Ohio organization, is ready to help. If you are moving to Columbus this winter, choose a home that has been built by the organization themselves.

Habitat for Humanity is showing low-income families how going green can build self-sufficiency. They are constructing homes in the Franklin County area that focus on conservation resources, consciousness, and energy efficiency.

President and CEO E.J. Thomas says, “It’s their priority to help families succeed in every way possible and a big part of that is ensuring there is enough money available to meet their basic needs.” By building homes that are energy efficient, more dollars are being saved in homeowners’ pockets – a concept that Columbus movers believe is long overdue for helping these families out, but are more than happy to relocate families in need to housing that can help them save!

So how exactly are they accomplishing this? It is called the AWARE building standards. Columbus homes must meet the following standards in order to be considered energy efficient.

  • The first inspection is for the air infiltration package. This inspection is to make sure that all cracks, crevices, voids, etc. have been sealed properly, as well as the sealing of the ductwork, prior to installing insulation.
  • The second is the insulation inspection to verify that all insulation has been installed properly, prior to installing drywall.
  • The third inspection is a final AWARE inspection. As with a final building inspection, they are making sure that what was specified early on has been installed. This includes Energy Star appliances and light fixtures, low-water-consumption fixtures, and high-efficiency HVAC equipment.

Moving to Columbus and choosing an energy efficient home can greatly impact your finances. Check out these great “Green” homes today and remember your local Columbus movers on moving day!

Other alcoholic beverages will be sold at the event, but organizers want to remind attendees that this is a family-friendly event, so drink responsibly.

Powell movers are excited about the many activities that will be showcased this year. The 2nd Annual “Running of the Wieners” will start the day, with the final leg beginning later in the afternoon. It is safe to say that during the summer months, gyms across the nation notice an uptick in the amount of locals flocking to get their fitness on. Why? For obvious reasons – the summer is swimsuit season. YMCA employees at the local Columbus facility recently released the most common workout myths and facts.

  1. Walking vs. Running – It is a common myth that walking is just as effective as running; however, a fitness expert will tell you that running is better than walking every time because it burns more calories.
  2. “No pain, no gain” – YMCA Columbus staff also say that this is incorrect. According to the crew, “muscle soreness is natural after working out, but pain means there’s actual injury.”

Jean Fry, who works at the Columbus YMCA, explained, “It’s very common to think that, ‘oh my gosh if i’m not aching and paining everywhere after this workout, then I didn’t do anything, but that’s just not true.”

  1. You gain weight when you eat before going to sleep – Although many argue that this is true, because you can’t burn the calories off if you are sleeping, experts say that it’s false. However, binge eating unhealthy snacks will make you gain weight.
  2. Knuckle cracking causes arthritis – This is another myth that Columbus movers are glad to hear. A new study shows that there are no long term, negative effects to cracking your knuckles.

Take a break from moving this summer and hit the gym at your local YMCA. Their trained staff and fitness experts can answer all of your questions, as well as help your arms get buff for lifting those heavy moving boxes.

Amazon is the only online store having mastered the art of knowing exactly what a consumer wants and giving it to them in the fastest way possible. Columbus movers will be helping new residents settle in as mega-giant is going to bring over 2,000 jobs to central Ohio and the Columbus area – and fast.

Just eight weeks have passed since an Amazon executive stood next to Governor John Kasich and boasted about the company’s Big Data network as “just the beginning of Amazon in the state.” Now, more plans have been passed by the e-commerce giant to invest $225 million in additional funds that would aid in creating 2,000 jobs. Another motion, a $1.1 billion project for Amazon to construct three data centers in Dublin, Hilliard, and New Albany, has already been passed.

If you are moving to Columbus, Licking County has been named the proposed site for Amazon’s initiatives, so that may be where you should look into relocating to for a job. Although 2,000 is double what Amazon typically employs at a single facility, it is not uncommon for them to create a large center where they deem fit. In Shepherdsville, Kentucky, the Amazon.com KYDC LLC employs 2,200 employees in order to fulfill online orders. Amazon, in total, employs 7,232 workers in nine states. These centers handle purchase and order fulfillment, distribution, returns, and more.
